Mobile psychologists are unique professionals that are trained in the art of working with people from all kinds of different backgrounds. A mobile therapist has the ability to adapt his or her practice around the individual client’s needs and circumstances. This flexibility is what makes the position such an exciting prospect for many therapists. Although therapists will still go to the same places and do the same work, the mobile therapist is able to take the client to new places to meet with clients, explore issues, and work on different therapies. By doing so, the therapist provides the client with a much more comprehensive therapy experience.
The flexibility of these therapists is also what makes them popular. They can follow us around the city if we want or we can go out on a hike, or even take a long bike ride. Both of these experiences allow therapists to make new memories and to reconnect with old ones. For example, if we had previously decided to go on a long bike ride, we could follow therapists who live in other cities and connect with people we met on our road trip.
A mobile psychologist can also provide therapy to those who have recently relocated. Moving is a huge event in most people’s lives, whether they choose to admit it or not. In fact, for many of us moving is synonymous with loneliness. However, if you work with a psychologist from a place where you may be forced to move because of a job transfer or some other type of situation, he or she can help you deal with the transition.
Perhaps you know a friend or loved one who has used a mobile therapist to address some issues in their lives. Many of us have had therapy sessions with people who struggled with addiction, anger management, self-esteem issues, and other concerns. If you know anyone like this, chances are good that he or she would benefit from therapy with a psychologist who is also mobile. It’s important to remember that therapists can’t simply come to your home to provide therapy – they must provide it where it is convenient for you.
Finding psychologists in your area doesn’t have to be a difficult task. There are plenty of resources available. One of them is the American Psychological Association, which has lots of great information on the Internet. You can contact the APA for listings of local therapists in your area. You can also look for therapists on Google and search for “APA local therapists” or “APA psychologists near you.”
Of course, there are other great sources of information on finding local therapists. For example, you can always get a list of local therapists from your local hospital or mental health office, as well as those listed in telephone directories. Some of these directories, such as the Yellow Pages, will allow you to narrow down your choices by state, city, and type of therapy.
Once you have a list of local therapists available, you’ll need to make sure you have a face-to-face meeting with each of them. It is perfectly okay to call each of the available therapists and set up an appointment to see them, but having a one-on-one encounter is much better than getting a phone call. You can use this time to interview the mobile therapist about the practice, your therapy needs, what their fees are, and how they treat their clients.
Once you have met with a mobile psychologist, you can determine if you feel you are comfortable working with them and if you think you would like to work with them on a long-term basis. This is especially important if you are new to treatment or if you haven’t had success with traditional therapists. Your first meeting should be free and open, and the therapist should thank you for your interest and ask if you would like to sign up for a free follow-up session. This lets you see how committed the mobile therapist is to your therapy, and you will know if you would feel comfortable working with them on a regular basis. If you decide that you want to continue with therapy after the first session, ask your mobile psychologist if it is okay to make weekly or monthly appointments. You can also set up a scheduled time to come in for an in-office consultation if you feel more comfortable seeing your mobile therapist in person.
